Mr. Elmar Gasimov, Rector of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS), warmly welcomed and hosted a special reception for Mr. Mohamed Osman Haji Ali, President of the Somali Congress of Trade Unions (SOCOTU), and Ms. Hamdi Osman, the Executive Vice President of SOCOTU.
During their visit, the SOCOTU delegation was given a comprehensive tour of the university, including key academic and research facilities such as the library, various faculties, advanced laboratories, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) department, the IT training center, and the Petroleum Engineering faculty. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the university’s world-class educational infrastructure and its commitment to innovation and excellence.
Baku Higher Oil School is recognized as one of the world’s leading institutions in engineering and energy-related fields. President Haji Ali expressed deep gratitude for the university’s efforts in supporting global education, particularly in Africa, and its commitment to offering fully funded scholarships to Somali students. He was especially pleased to learn that a significant number of Somali students are currently studying at BHOS on full scholarships. In total, the university has awarded full scholarships to 60 students from various countries, reinforcing its dedication to providing quality education to talented students worldwide.
President Haji Ali also acknowledged and appreciated the strong relationship between Somalia and Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the support of the Azerbaijani government and its people toward Somalia is invaluable, as demonstrated by the warm reception given to both the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Chairman of SOCOTU during their official visit to Azerbaijan. This visit also resulted in the signing of significant agreements aimed at fostering development and cooperation between the two nations.
In response, Mr. Elmar Gasimov reaffirmed BHOS’s commitment to strengthening educational ties with Somalia. He praised Chairman Haji Ali for his dedication to enhancing cooperation between the two institutions and for advocating for Somali students. Mr. Gasimov assured that BHOS remains fully committed to providing full scholarships to Somali students and supporting initiatives to advance education in Somalia.
The visit marked an important step toward strengthening academic and professional collaboration between Azerbaijan and Somalia, with a shared vision of empowering youth through education and skill development.
